Heathcote Blue — Maybe So, Maybe No

The second look at the new Heathcote Blue album arrives with Maybe So, Maybe No. It’s delicate meets upbeat and driving. There’s something special about this band’s mix of depth and humour that generates a very humanlike quality in all their music.

Maybe So, Maybe No is in the RTRFM Sound Selection for the week of October 23, 2023.

Recorded and mixed by Rhien Tan

e.s. hughes — Spring in Kondinin

The first single from e.s. hughes forthcoming debut record is out now. Spring in Kondinin features Hugh Manning’s supreme lyricism and vocal ability, full of character and weight. The combination of Manning and producer Annika Moses brings beautifully orchestrated guitar parts, piano embellishment, and vocal harmony that build gracefully over the song.

Spring in Kondinin is in the RTRFm Sound Selection for the week of October 30, 2023.

Released on Source Decay
Produced, engineered and mixed by Annika Moses.
Mastered by Dan O'Connor at ENCODER Sound.

Fallen Eyelash — From There...

The debut record from Fallen Eyelash (aka Danyon Saxon) From There… is out now. It’s an ambitious work that utilises a tuning system where the octave is divided into 22 equal steps. Because of this, it takes a little time to get into this one, but there is this nice settling as your ear grows accustomed to the intonation. A pop sensibility shines throughout, creating an interesting tension in the music between groove, melody, harmony and listener expectation.

Truely wild music and such a great project to work on.

Composition, production, performance, and cover art by Danyon Saxon
Vocal clips (tracks 8 and 9) by Gabby Loo
Produced and mixed by Ryan Burge
Mastered by Dan O'Connor at ENCODER Sound.

Strakerbarlow — All Your Pretty Horses

Strakerbarlow’s second single of the year is All Your Pretty Horses, following on from Push Against the Sun, which premiered in August.

This single leans a little more gritty and darker than the previous, trading jangly acoustic guitars for tastefully distorted electrics. Both singles feature Strakerbarlow’s keen ear for melody and floating, reverberant vocal performance.

Recorded by Gareth O’Neill and Jake Perrett
Produced and mixed by Gareth O’Neill
Mastered by Dan @ENCODERSound

Heathcote Blue — Eddy

The first look at the new Heathcote Blue album arrives in the form of ‘Eddy,’ a down tempo and spacious single.

This has been my favourite tune of their’s since I first heard it in Heathcote Blue’s set supporting Nika Mo back in 2021. The way the space is embellished is delicate and masterful by all players. The spaciousness coupled with the lyrical refrain “the seasons, they see you” leads me to feel that I can see into the music, and simultaneously the music can see into me.

Check the music video by Lyndon Blue, and keep an ear out for the full record.
