Callistemon — Beginner's Mind

Callistemon (a.k.a Jake Schoer) releases the Beginner’s Mind album. Superficially this record reads like a document of first takes and captured inspiration, but far from a set of demos, as it unfolds one senses complete intention in the work. I love the raw energy of every track, the care with which one song resolves organically into the next, and the commitment to a noisey, tape-y character that revels in sonic shifts.

Oakabella Mae — Ain't I Glad

Oakabella Mae’s ‘Ain’t I Glad’ is out now. Really warm close vocal on this one, and the space in groove is so pleasant to sink into. What get’s me about Oakabella’s work is that the orchestration and arrangement always feel so organic, nothing ever forced or by numbers.

Recorded and mixed by Andy Hill at Tunafish Recording Company.

The Sink (ft. Racoo) — Mainstay

The Sink release their Mainstay EP. I love the crunchiness of this record. When listening I get the sense I’m unearthing an archival recording of some band I’ve never heard, later to discover they’ve had a cult following all along. The dual vocals is a feature.
