Montana Wildhack — Sanderling

Sanderling is the new EP from Montana Wildhack. It’s sometimes dreamy, occassionally crunchy, and always deeply grooving. The music and production has a kind of retro timelessness about it which is really nice.

The track ‘Slow Country’ is in the RTRFM Sound Selection for the week starting January 22nd, 2024.

Scientia and Tenebrae — A Trilogy of Postcards

Scientia and Tenebrae collaborate to produce the video album A Trilogy of Postcards, out now on Burnt Seed Records. It’s textural music that uses field recordings and synthesiser, the kind of thing that washes over the listener in waves. Tenebrae’s visual contribution is a trippy distortion of landscape video.

Unfold — Glass Heart

Unfold’s debut record Glass Heart is out now on Tone List. The duo of Alice Humphries and Thea Rossen take great care in the curation and performance of sound. The balance of the melodic and harmonic with the textural and percussive is perfect. And, the pacing of the work maintains momentum, whilst also challenging the listener to approach with a certain patience in the listening.

The single ‘Move’ off Glass Heart was in the RTRFm Sound Selection for the week of November 13th, 2023.

Jameson Feakes — Albany's Famous Gardeners

Following the single ‘Little Wonder,’ Jameson Feakes releases Albany’s Famous Gardeners, the full-length acoustic folk extravaganza. In collaboration with the State Library of WA and State Records Office of WA, Feakes wrote songs inspired by interesting finds in the archives, often from the personal writing of folks long past. The album constructs a kind of ode to both everyday folks in the South West and the State Archives themselves. For this project Feakes formed an all-star, Boorloo-based ensemble of friends for a live-in-the-studio recording session. The result is beautiful melodies amongst moody textures, generated through immaculate musicianship.

‘Little Wonder’ was in the RTRFm Sound Selection for the week of November 13, 2023.
