Cryptids — Jonah

Cryptids' debut single Jonah is a slow build, minimal, chant, full of jangly guitars, lush reverbs, and sweet vocal harmonies. They noted tracks by The Antlers, Them Are Us Too, Slowdive, and Low influential in the construction of this extruded, subtly layered indie tune.

Pale Ribbons Tossed into the Dark — Pale Ribbons Tossed into the Dark

After releasing the single ‘The Creak’ in May, 2022, Pale Ribbons are back with the accompanying self-titled debut full length, Pale Ribbons Tossed into The Dark. The trio of Michael Terren, Djuna Lee, and Jameson Feakes remain reserved through the record, revealing a plethora of textual detail which serves to support stretched, sparsely dispensed melodic phrases. The album is awash with shimmering digital synthesis from Terren and underpinned but by double bass (Lee), and electric guitar (Feakes). The record weaves an organic pathway between the recorded and the synthesised.

Michael Terren — keys, synthesis
Djuna Lee — double bass
Jameson Feakes — electric guitar

Produced and mixed by Michael Terren
Mastered by Dan @ENCODERSound.

Released on CD and digital via Bandcamp.

Brix — Arkansas / Blown Out Windows

Brix (aka Jeremy Segal) releases a nice double-single, Arkansas / Blown Out Windows, today. It sits squarely in the bedroom rock space, think The Strokes meets Deerhunter. I love the speed with which this came together, reported taking a single day to compose and record both tunes. As a consequence the freshness has been sealed within!

The track ‘Blown Out Windows’ has been added to the RTRFM Sound Selection for the week starting 31st October 2022.

Only available on Bandcamp.

Sugar Wife — Ablations

Ablations, the debut record for Sugar Wife, is out now on Blue Grey Pink.

The songwriting and storytelling across the whole album is fantastic. It’s such a complete statement, well conceived, well executed, and a listening experience where music and lyrics work together effortlessly.

The themes on [Ablations] circulate the mental and physical trauma that comes with prolonged, extraordinary health problems interspersed with regular themes that everyone experiences in everyday life. Like blood before and after it has been pumped through the heart, the songs on Ablations often carry a duality; some are paired in the same key, others, a shared hook or lyric, and they’re all as much for the listener as they are for their makers. (Sugar Wife, 2022)

Congratulations to the Sugar Wife team on completing such a complete piece of art.
