Nika Mo — Panicle

‘Panicle’ is the new single from Nika Mo. A meandering pair of warm acoustic guitars sets the scene, creating a bed for beautiful multitracked harmonies, with lyrics that feel like the inner musings of someone strolling beneath shedding jacarandas. The accompanying video features said jacarandas in the suburbs of Boorloo.

This one drops into the RTRFM Sound Selection for the week of November 25th, 2024.

Ruby Taylor — The Lake

Ruby Taylor releases debut EP The Lake.

This record utilises texture, noise, and ambience to build a dark, moody world within which Ruby’s exceptional vocal performance reveals a sorrowful story. It’s all pulled together so naturally, the sonics and lyrics combining for an emotional ride.

All over streaming now and launching live at The Bird, Friday November 15th.

‘Don’t Take Her to the Lake’ has been added to the RTRFM Sound Selection for the week starting 18th November, 2024. And, ‘Meet Me at the Lake’ was added to the Fresh Picks | West Australian Music Playlist on Spotify.

Permeclipse — As The Sun Goes Down

Debut EP for Permeclipse As The Sun Goes Down is out now! The previous singles are joined by new tunes ‘Quiet Breath,’ ‘Never Forget,’ and ‘As the Sun Goes Down.’ I love the arc of this release, it finds moments of calm and space which prepare the heaviness really well. Great melody and riff writing too, all performed very accurately.

Odlaw — Dead on the Inside

Another look at the upcoming Odlaw album Mi(l)d Life Crisis with ‘Dead on the Inside,’ out now on Blue Grey Pink.

Big snare drum, buoyant tempo energy on this one, with that classic Odlaw style that flips a perhaps melancholic sentiment into a party singalong.

You can help a great bunch of folks release this record on vinyl at their Kickstarter.

Brix — Port

Brix ‘Ports’ off the forthcoming Grand Brix is out now.

Four seasoned multi-genre, artist-composer-performer musicians return to their introspective indie-rock roots bringing with them the patience and craft everyone’s high school garage band was lacking. On ‘Ports’ the quartet weaves hooky lyrics over odd meter, a tight kit, and chugging guitars.

‘Ports’ has been added to the RTRFM Sound Selection for the week starting 28th October, 2024.
