Moth Swatter — Boyfriend

Moth Swatter drops ‘Boyfriend’ over at Bandcamp. This tune uplifts with its approach to rhythm and finds a nice blend between instrumentation and lyrical content; inquisitive, curious, intentful, positive. Such a tidy and succinct pop tune.

I like to think that the character in this tune and in Best Coast’s ‘Boyfriend’ (2010) find each other.

This one drops into the RTRFM Sound Selection for the week of February 24th, 2025.

Oakabella Mae — Ataraxy

The first single off Oakabella Mae’s upcoming Complimentary Ghost EP is ‘Ataraxy.’ A lovely mid-tempo, full-band, soaring melody kind of indie tune. I like the warmth in this track and the vocal and harmonies really are just so pleasant to listen too.

Excellent music video for this one from Cinematographer, Director & Editor Tabitha Murdoch.

Complimentary Ghosts is out on the 21st!!

This one drops into the RTRFM Sound Selection for the week of February 10th, 2025. And, into the Fresh Picks | West Australian Music Playlist on Spotify.

L0k + DEHNOE — 6000-TB

A great collab from a subset of the Lunch Records crew of L0k and DEHNOE is out now, 6000-TB.

This record really moves through a bunch of tonal colours. My faves are the upbeat, brighter moments, “HYPO POP,”“DISCOTEK” and “ANGELS ALL GONE.” These are setup so well by the darker, heavier feeling tracks that really make the brightness pop.

DEHNOE — SYNCHRONICITY

Bringing in 2025 a couple of days early is DEHNOE’s sophomore album SYNCHRONICITY, out now on Lunch Records.

The energy is really high throughout this record, peaking at points like ‘FADED’ and ‘2002 SUBARU’ and taking moments of pause through ‘WON’T TURN BACK’ and ‘CLEAR STATIC,’ultimately resolving with ‘G,’ a beautifully open and detailed groove. ‘Honest’ and ‘flowing’ are words that come to mind as I listen.

DEHNOE + L0k — KEYS TO THE MAZDA

Kicking off a busy period for Lunch Records is the first single from the L0k + DEHNOE collab. TB-6000, ‘Keys to the Mazda.’

This tune finishes in a completely different place than where it starts, but somehow holds together in a very organic way. The free-wheeling, flowing, and spontaneous vocals again highlight the intuitive approach to production and writing. Any moment could go anywhere, as long as it sounds good.
