L0K — a Place to Call Home

L0K presents their debut solo record A Place to Call Home, out today. I’d describe this as hyper detailed, lo-fi music, featuring intricate textural layers adorned with completely listenable melodies.

The record finds a rarely heard balance between attention to detail, an embrace of the organic flow of music, and a pop/mainstream sensibility. There is a sense of real artistic depth, with all eleven songs describing an aspect of an intricately recorded and produced world.

Web Rumors — Disciple 2

Web Rumors hits hard yet again with Disciple 2, the followup EP to 2022's Disciple. Leaning into an 80s, cold-wave aesthetic that has been Web Rumors’ focus for the past 18 months these four tracks really hold you in perpetual groove.

I really enjoy the craft and intent behind this music. It has the feeling that decision about tempo and form are informed by feel and a deep knowledge of a network of genres, and the execution is top shelf.

The track ‘De Bas En Haut’ gets listed in the RTRFm Sound Selection for the week starting May 15th, and the lead single ‘Ego Technician’ hit that same list ‘round May 1st.

Web Rumors — Ego Technician

Ego Technician, the first single from Web Rumors upcoming Disciple 2, is out now. Continuing to explore dance music of the 80s and 90s, Web Rumors aka Em Burrows finds new shades and details through a thorough exploration of a carefully curated, limited sonic palette.

‘Ego Technician’ speaks to the balance of mediating the instinctual self and the critical self. (Burrows, 2023)

Ego Technician is included in the RTRFm Sound Selection for the week starting May 1st, 2023.

Disciple 2 is out in full on May 15th. Pre-order on Bandcamp now.

Jocelyn's Baby — Are You Listening?

Are You Listening? the debut album for from Jocelyn’s Baby is out now on Blue Grey Pink!

Whilst discussing pressing social issues the record’s shades of humour and playfulness both soften and focus the sentiment in a masterful display of lyricism. Musically Are You listening? takes many genre twists and turns, flirting with rock n roll, flamenco, country, pop, and more, all held together with Jess’s captivating and dimensional vocal performance.

Are You Listening? is the RTRFm Local Feature for the week of March 13, 2023.

Land's Air — Land's Air

Two of Boorloo’s most prolific experimentalists combine as Land's Air. The duo of Eduardo Cossio and Josten Myburgh manipulate saxophone, zithers, space, and time, feeding melody and noise into naturally reverberant spaces with patience and timbral focus.

Josten Myburgh – alto saxophone, electronics, recording.
Eduardo Cossio – zithers, electronics, harmonica, photography, design.
